For more than ten thousand years cultivation of land and the rearing of farm animals was a “natural” part of
civilization. Farming is the root of the urbanisation process and at the same time has always been very much influenced by urban development the dynamics of which in turn has driven farming out of our immediate
experiences
Within an impressively short period of time we have lost contact to our natural life support systems: plants,
animals and ecosystems which are vital to a sustainable development. Especially the horrors of industrialised animal “production” drastically remind us how estranged we have become to farming in our cities. That is
where the work of the community farm starts..
The community farm project is part of an effort to permanently establish car free residential areas
in our cities. These
areas connect the wish of many urban residents to change individual possession of vehicles with a reintegration of nature, versatile play and recreational space,
local shopping facilities, job opportunities and committed community life into urban residential areas without waiving one’s right of mobility. These areas also comply with major principles of sustainable urban development
